38 years ago today I discovered America…
Yep! It’s my birthday. I’m not old. Yet. But it won’t be long. I told somebody last week that I must be getting old, because I don’t get mad anymore when somebody calls me a boy. I preached last week at Brother Paul Hill’s campmeeting. Brother Roger Henson got up behind me and asked, “Where’s that boy that just preached?” I leaned over to the dear old saint of God and asked her, “Do I look like a boy?” She said, YES you do! I leaned back and looked at her. She was white headed! I said, “I can live with that!” I bumped into an old friend of mine last week, Pastor Terrell Hopkins. We spent hours going over the old days, reminding each other of the nights we were in the same youth group together and would pray all night, go to revivals, sing in the youth choir together, etc. His oldest daughter is 19! I cannot believe it. Of course, mine is fixing to be 14, but I am not old. Still no gray hair. ( a few wrinkles though…) Won’t be long. I do pastor a bunch of Baptist!!!
Woke up thinking about how Herod celebrated his birthday in Matthew 14. Dancing, drunkenness, debauchery, depravity, decadence, and the decapitation of an Independent, Fundamental, Baptist preacher! That must have been some party! Thankfully, in all of my years, I’ve never celebrated my birthday like ole Herod did! Thanks be to God, I’ve lived 38 years, saved at 4, so that’s 34 years I’ve lived for my Master. I just wanted to tell Him how much I love Him and appreciate the great life that He has given me. I don’t know how much longer I have, but if I died today, I know where I’m going, and It’s Been a Wonderful Life! Even better than ole Jimmy Stewart’s!! Thank you Lord for saving me, and letting me serve you a little bit. I have no regrets.
Pastor
