Exam Time!

I Cor. 11:28

Intro: In school, we used to cringe at the words EXAMS!!!  Before we take the Lord’s supper, we must examine ourselves and make sure we do not have any unconfessed sin in our life.

There’s three types of exams in the Bible…

A. The Examination by God

  • Psalms 26:2  Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart.

B. The Examination by Others

  • 1 Corinthians 9:3  Mine answer to them that do examine me is this,

C. The Examination of Self

  • 1 Corinthians 11:28  But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

I. Examine Your Faith

  • 2 Corinthians 13:5  Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

Are you sure you are saved?

Has there been a change?

Do you have the characteristics of your Heavenly Father?

II. Examine Your Flesh

  • 1 Corinthians 11:28  But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

Illustrate: Imagine sitting on a judge’s bench and judging your own self.  Would you be clean or crooked?

To judge your own self… (vs. 31)

  • You must be OBJECTIVE – a judge can’t be biased; he must remove himself emotionally from the case
  • You must be HONEST – he must acknowledge and accept the facts as they are presented
  • You must be INFORMED – he must know the law in order to make a lawful judgment
