Why the Sodomites Are Breaking Down Our Doors

Genesis 19:9 And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.

Intro: I want to preach a two-pronged message today.  One is on the abomination called homosexuality.  The second is on the complacency of the church that has emboldened them in their sin.

First of all – the Bible still condemns the sin of homosexuality.  It always has, and always will!

A. Homosexuality is Unscriptural

• Leviticus 18:22  Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
• 1 Corinthians 11:9  Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.
• Ephesians 5:31  For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

B. Homosexuality is Unnatural

EVEN PLUMBING FIXTURES WON’T WORK WITHOUT MALE AND FEMALE COMPONENTS.

The New Testament condemns this sin in the strongest possible terms.  IT IS UNNATURAL!

• Romans 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

The sodomites cannot REPRODUCE; SO THEY RECRUIT.

They talk about it being ‘PERFECTLY NORMAL’, but they insist on teaching it to kindergartners!!

C. Homosexuality is Unhealthy – … and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

A new study came out last week that proved (again) that sodomites are a much higher risk of disease and HIV than anybody else.  Who knew??

This unsanitary nature of this lifestyle has negative physical consequences. 

Homosexuals make up only 1-2% of the population, but they are 17% of all hospital admissions. 

78% of homosexuals have an STD. 

The average age of homosexual death is 42. 

Only 9% live past 65. 

The average heterosexual man lives to be 75. 

Lesbians live to 45 on average.  Only 24% live past 65. 

The average age of death of a heterosexual woman is 79. 

Social consequences have also been observed.  50% of women on death row are lesbians.

Does anybody beside me think it strange that SAME-sex marriage proponents always talk about DIVERSITY??

Shouldn’t their emblem be a solid color, rather than a rainbow??

Their color should be the PALE, COLD, COLOR OF DEATH AND DEVESTATION AND DEPRAVITY.

It doesn’t matter how many celebrities, or politicians, or theologians, or athletes “come out”, it’s still sin!!

God didn’t create Adam and Steve; He created Adam and Eve!

I’ve said it for many years, and I say it again – God loves the homosexual, but God hates the sin of homesexuality!

But I want to preach this message this morning, not to the sodomites, but to the church.

In this story, we can look at Lot as a picture of the Laodicean church; saved but backslid.

We will realize that it is the carnal, compromising condition of the church that has empowered the sodomite community and emboldened them to the point that they are BREAKING OUR DOORS DOWN today!!!

Question: If the darkness is overwhelming, isn’t because there isn’t enough light?

I. Because of our Lack of Cooperation – Gen. 13:7 And there was a strife between the herdmen…

I am convinced of one fact: If Lot had stayed with Abraham, and labored with him, and worked together with him, these Sodomites wouldn’t have been beating his door down!

Because Lot couldn’t get along with other believers, he found himself outnumbered by the heathen around him!

For years, the sodomite crowd have been gathering momentum for the simple fact that they are unified in their cause!

They have pooled their resources, their time, their money, their efforts and created a spearhead of force.

They have influenced the movie industry, the music industry, the media, politicians, lobbyists – even the President.

They have effectively pushed their agenda until it’s on the front page of every newspaper, almost every day.

It’s in the news; it’s in the schools, the colleges, the universities, the Congress, the Senate, the White House – and even in churches.

It’s in the sitcoms, the late night comedies, the prime time shows, the cartoons, even westerns! (Brokeback Mtn.)

They have infiltrated every aspect of our lives, crammed their beliefs down the throats of every American, intimidated Christians, made being against their sin “politically incorrect” and they are beating the doors down of our churches!

Why?  Because God’s people can’t get unified!  They specialize in controversy, strife and debate.

Not with the world, or sin or ungodliness, but with each other!

Do you realize that Lot had more in common than with any other person on the earth, and he couldn’t get along with him?  And thought he would be better off away from him?  And why?

In the grand scheme of things, his differences were so petty that it doesn’t even make sense!

II. Because of our Love of Carnality – Gen. 13:12

The first thing that Lot did when he separated himself from the people of God, he began to watch the world.

He pitched his tent toward Sodom.

He wasn’t involved…yet…but he knew what they were doing, what they were involved in, etc.

He was interested in their lifestyle.

He found their way of doing things entertaining and amusing.

It wasn’t long before he went from a tent TOWARD Sodom to living in a house IN Sodom. 19:3

I’ve seen it over and over again – people fall out with God’s man and right into a house in the middle of Sodom.

There were people that went to Chick-fil-A on Wednesday, and then went home after church and watched perverts on the TV – and enjoyed it!

They say they hate homosexuality, but they watch Ellen DeGeneres, listen to Elton John and work out with Richard Simmons!

I wonder how many men at Chick-fil-A last Wednesday had porn on their cell phones and computers?

I wonder how many people “protest” the lifestyle of the wicked, yet they pitch their tents toward it every day??!!

They are beating our doors in because we have only protested their sin in WORD: not in DEED.

III. Because of our Life of Comfort – Gen. 19:1

Lot’s comfort is so obvious in this chapter that it is appalling!  Look at verse 1 – he is sitting in the gate.

He is comfortable – not so much as the fact that he is sitting, but who he is sitting WITH.

The leaders of the city sat in the gates; and Lot was one of them.

He had earned the support and the approval of the people so much so that he was one of their leading citizens!

He has become a part of the law-making, policy-making, advise-giving, decision-making factions of the community.

He was comfortable.

So comfortable that in verse 15 he was warned of the possibility of being CONSUMED IN THE INIQUITY, YET HE LINGERED. Vs. 16 – UNBELIEVABLE!

He had to literally be DRAGGED from his home by these angels because of his lethargic, comfortable mindframe.

He was so comfortable that God sending ANGELS to warn him wouldn’t prompt him to action.

IV. Because of our Loss of Conviction – Gen. 19:8

These are some of the most heart-rending verses in our Bible.

Here is a man that God calls a “just man”, yet he is about to feed his virgin daughters to the wolves.

His desire to “fit in” and to “accommodate” the wicked has him ready to sacrifice his entire family.

His daughters were apparently raised with enough virtue that they were still pure, but Daddy’s fixing to blow it!!

 

His willingness to please the sodomites almost resulted in his daughters becoming playthings for the devil’s crowd.

His lack of conviction was consummated in the end of the chapter.

It wasn’t the sodomites that defiled his daughters; it was him.

It wasn’t their LIFESTYLE OF CORRUPTION that ruined his family tree; it was his LACK OF CONVICTION!!

We have Christian men and women dressing their children up like sodomites!

Notice: in verse 8, Lot was encouraging the sodomites to “do ye to them as is good in your eyes”.

Guess who adopted that same moral code in the cave at the end of the chapter?  His daughters justified their sin.

What a lack of conviction!

Daddy!  Mama!  Your lack of conviction about right and wrong is far more detrimental to your children than the world!

Don’t start condemning the world for being perverted and ungodly – that’s what unsaved people do.

It’s the church of the living God being perverted and ungodly that is killing our nation!

Lot was MORE CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT THE VISITORS THOUGHT ABOUT HIM than what his kids thought about him!

Conclusion: And we wonder why the sodomites are breaking our doors down?  Why they are bold enough to sue the church, and preachers, and Christians?  I think it’s because we’ve let them know that we are just a lot of hot air, and that we are not really going to protest them or their sin.

If you are here today and you are bound by the chains of homosexuality, Jesus died for you.

Accept Him as your Savior; repent of your sin, ask Him to forgive you and let Him save your soul!

If you are here today, and your life is such that it is sending a message of apathy and compromise to the world, get right with God today and join the dedicated, Bible believers in taking a stand!
