Time for a Touch
Genesis 32:25
Introduction:
Touching is a very simple, yet complex subject. Touch can mean many things.
- Affection- (I Corinthians 7:1) "...It is good for a man not to touch a woman."
- Attention - you touch someone to get their attention...
- Appease- (Matthew 9:21) "...If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole."
- Appoint- (I Timothy 5:22) "Lay hands on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure."
- Access- "Stay in touch" ATT- touch tone phone...
- Assault- (Job 1:11) "But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face." (Psalm 105:15) "Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm."
- Admiration- (Luke 6:19) "And the whole multitude sought to touch him..."
- Approval- (Luke 18:15 "And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them..."
It's Time for a Touch When...
I. Your Fears Control You- (Genesis 32:7,11) (v.7) "Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed..." (v.11) "...for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me..." A time of Danger, Distress, Division, Desolation, Defeat.
II. Your Failures Confront You- (Genesis 32:6, 7, 11) (v.6) "...and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him."
III. Your Finances Confuse You- (Matthew 6:31) "Therefore take no thought..."
IV. Your Family Concerns You- vs. 11
V. Your Fighting Confines You- (Genesis 32:24-26)"And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day."
After God touched him, there was...
- No Fear- (Genesis 32:30) "...for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved."
- No Failure- (Genesis 32:28) "...for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed."
- No Financial Confusion- (Genesis 33:8-11) (v.9) "And Esau said, I have enough, my brother, keep that thou hast unto thyself."
- No Family Concerns- (Genesis 33:5) "And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children..."
- No Fighting- (Genesis 32:28) Power with God.
Conclusion:
(Romans 9:13) "As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated." God wanted to bless Jacob so he could have a man on earth with His name (Israel) a prince of God & His power!
