More Than A Fairy Tale

Luke 24:11

Intro: This week, our hearts and minds are on the resurrection of the Lord.  It would be hard to preach an exhaustive message on the subject.  There are many avenues we could take to examine this doctrine.

A. The Revelations of the Resurrection - I Cor. 15:1-12;  it was witnessed by many people

B. The Ramifications of the Resurrection - I Cor. 15:13-32

If there were no resurrection, then...

God is a lie - Isa. 9:6 how can he be the everlasting Father if he's dead?

Jesus is a loser - if he couldn't defeat death, he can't defeat anything

and our faith is a laugh!!

C. The Relevance of the Resurrection - Rom. 10:9, 10

The resurrection has been the object of much disbelief, debate, disregard, deception, discrimination, degradation, desecration and defamation!!  BUT, He's still alive!!  You must believe that to be saved!

  • Romans 10:9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

This morning, I want to look at it from a personal perspective and simply defend the Biblical account of the resurrection from the impact it has had on my own life.  Some say it's just idle tales. I say it can't be idle tales!  It's far more than a "cleverly devised fable."

I am convinced that the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ is more than a fairy tale because of -

I. Conviction - Acts 2:29-37 (they were pricked in their hearts...)

            A. My conviction was personal

            B. My conviction was powerful

            C. My conviction was persistent - he's still convicting me!!

II. Conversion - Acts 3:12-20

            A. My conversion was transforming

            B. My conversion was thorough

III. Communion

            A. His communion is real

            B. His communion is refreshing

IV. Confirmations

            A. He confirms my prayers

            B. He confirms my path

V. Contentment - if Jesus is dead, who is this peace from??

  • Philippians 4:7  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
