Revival and the Big Brother Blues

Luke 15:25-32

Intro: There is a revival taking place down at the father's house.  People getting right, getting their fellowship restored, talking to their father for the first time in a long time, and big brother's so carnal he can't get in on it!  Why is he so blue?

I. Appetite - v. 27 ... fatted calf...He wouldn't eat

• Work without meat will not last
• Labor without food will produce irritability

II. Attitude  - v. 25 - refused to get excited

• It was LOUD!! Psalm 33:3
• It was LIVELY
• He had ask the other servants what was going on

III. Attendance - v. 28 - he would not go in... it doesn't say he could not!!

IV. Arrogance - v. 29 - he thought he was so right; never did anything wrong

V. Antagonism - v. 30 - ministry of reconciliation; wouldn't stop talking bad about his brother, even after the father had forgiven him.

• Labour without love
• Working without winning
• Bringing up people's past after forgiveness
• Gossip

VI. Appreciation - v. 31 - had everything he could ask for, and still wasn't happy!

• Eternal security
• Inheritance - riches
• More worried about what you don't have
• More worried about what you can't have
