Why the Prodigal Came To Himself
Luke 15
Intro: Notice the other parables in this story.
- The Sheep was lost, knew it, but didn't know the way back.
- The Silver was lost and didn't know it and didn't care.
- The Son was lost, knew it, and knew how to get back home.
What brought this man around? What was it that made him come to himself?
I. The Mockery
They no doubt mocked -
- His Race - I Peter 2:9
- His Raising - standards, convictions, etc.
- His Relatives - his father gave him his inheritance before he died.
- His Ruin - he spent all
II. The Misery
- His Loss - vs. 14
- family
- finances
- feeling
- future
- His Lacking - vs. 14 and began to be in want
- His Lusts - vs. 16 he had looked at the husks for so long it began to be appealing
- His Loneliness - vs. 16
III. The Memory
- The Father - vs. 18
- The Food - vs. 18
- The Fellow-laborers - vs. 18
- The Fellowship - vs. 18
- The Fulfillment - (he went from working to wasting)
IV. The Mercy
Paul revived Eutychus in Acts 20 - he was taken up dead
Paul did what the prodigal's father did - fell on his neck and embraced him
Most people that get out of the will of God never get back!!
They never return.
They never come to themselves - they are too full of themselves to get right with God.
