Preserving Our Religious Heritage: Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS) and Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV) introduced legislation on Wednesday that would require the national motto, “In God We Trust,” to be inscribed on the front of the presidential one dollar coins. Currently, the national motto is inscribed on the side of the coin. 

Sen. Brownback made the following statement: “Since the beginnings of the United States, citizens of this nation have officially acknowledged their dependence on God. It is important that our national motto, ‘In God We Trust,’ is prominently displayed on all of our currency. We should not relegate our heritage to the side.”
