Cyber-Ethics - Or LACK Thereof! |

Paul warned the church at Galatia in chapter 5, verse 15, "But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another." Surely the greatest tool to enable "biting and devouring" of one another has been the invention of the world-wide-web. Christians appear to be the leaders in utilizing technology for this purpose. While independent Baptists have long had a reputation for "shooting their wounded", apparently the problem is growing. Our local paper recently had an article discussing the Southern Baptist Convention's dilemma over how to handle the public airing (via the internet) of private disagreements between brothers in Christ.
This relatively new form of etertainment for people with way too much time on their hands can almost be amusing at times. The truth of the matter is, though, many people have been hurt by these anonymous "defenders of truth", and the cause of Christ has suffered as well. The world looks on at the foolishness and says, "If that's all they have to offer, no thanks!"
Recently, we read an editorial by Dr. Shelton Smith on this topic, and we believe it is worthwhile reading for those who are serious about Christian ethics in every area of life, including cyberspace!
