Thursday, January 10 Update on Renovation Project - To GOD Be The GLORY! Print E-mail

Progress continues on the exciting renovation project on the Main Auditorium at PVBC! You can also go to Photos to see what is going on!

Thursday 1/10/08

Praise the Lord! The people had a mind to work! God is so good. He has been faithful to this body of believers for over seventy-three years, and we continue to rejoice in His blessings. The first little church was built in 1934, it had two or three expansions and additions. Then in the mid 1950s, the Lord allowed PVBC to build the auditorium that sits right next to the original one. That auditorium had a major facelift in 1973 and again in the early 80s.

Then, in June of 1988 the church family moved into the present auditorium. Originally, it was designed to be used for the campmeeting, but desiring to be wise stewards of the Lord's money, the church moved all services into that auditorium shortly thereafter. It has been maintained over the years, and several years ago was remodeled with a dark trim package.

In the fall of 2007, Pastor Shiflett presented to the church his desire to completely redo the auditorium. These days we would call it an "extreme makeover"! On Sunday, December 23, the special offering was taken for this project, and on Monday, December 24, work began!

On Thursday, January 10, a large number of the church and school family pitched in for a post-construction clean up! The building is beautiful. So many different members of the church family have pitched in to do their part, and our pastor has faithfully worked and overseen the entire project.

In the minor prophets, God's children were rebuked for taking such good care of their personal dwellings and neglecting the house of God. We believe God is honored by the care of His people for the sanctuary. Our desire is to build and protect a place where our families, children, and grandchildren can enjoy the presence of God until our Saviour returns to take us home.

To all of our friends we say, "O magnify the Lord with me (us), and let us exalt His name together!"

Wednesday 1/9/08

The painting is nearly done. All that is left is a little trim and touch up work!

The carpet crew is moving quickly toward the back of the auditorium, while a couple of them are doing the detail work on the platform area.

The new flooring in the lobby/vesitbule area was started late last night. The men worked until the early hours this morning, went home for a few hours, and are at it again today!

Yesterday, the church chairs were steam cleaned, and the auditorium clean-up and accent decorating has begun!

Special note: We've posted some photos of our "trim crew" at work! These pictures will give you a good idea of what the auditorium looked like after being gutted as well as allowing you to see the new trim package.

Tuesday 1/8/08

The paint crew has finished the auditorium and is working on pulpit furniture and in the lobby. The auditorium is beautiful!

The carpet is being installed. As of this morning, the platform and choir area had almost been completed. Yesterday most of the auditorium carpet was cut even while the painters finished their work, so carpeting the auditorium should go quickly today and tomorrow.

Also, today we are steam cleaning all of the church chairs.

Friday 1/4/08

The rock was installed yesterday and looks beautiful! Due to the extremely cold weather in Greenville on Thursday, several installers were called off of their other jobs and sent to help the crew working here. By mid-day, the work was done!

Thursday 1/3/08

The auditorium trim work is done and the trim should be completed in the lobby today. The platform has been enlarged, and the stone work for the front of the sanctuary begins this morning. The carpet has arrived, and the installation will begin soon. And the paint crew continues to do an excellent job!

First Report 12/30/07:

This has been a busy week at PVBC!

On Monday, December 24, a group of 25-30 men and boys emptied the auditorium, removed the carpet, and started taking down the old trim work.

The men were also able to set up the temporary sanctuary in the Raynes Building. They did an excellent job, and when everyone arrived for prayer meeting on Wednesday evening, it looked and "felt" just like a regular church auditorium, and the service was very good! God has been so good to us here!

Throughout the week, Pastor Shiflett and a select group of trim carpenters have worked hard, and the auditorium is coming along very nicely. In fact, they may be a little ahead of schedule, because we've noticed that the paint crew has already started working behind them!

On Monday, December 31, the trim work should be completed, and renovations of the platform area will begin. Carpet is supposed to arrive late in the week! We'll keep you posted!
