Hispanic Ministry Update - Fall '08 Print E-mail
The Hispanic ministry of PVBC continues to enjoy the blessings of God. While growth has been very slow, we have seen God do some great things in several lives.

Recently, Arturo returned to his home in Mexico. He had been saved in the home of one of our Hispanic ministry workers, and the growth in his life was a blessing. As time went on, he realized he needed to be with his family. Please pray for this brother and his family. We are still in contact with him and are praying that his family will come to Christ. We are also praying that God will direct him to a strong, Bible-preaching church. They live near Mexico City in the Federal District.

Two of our young Hispanic men have expressed an interest in learning more about the Word of God. One told Pastor Shiflett, "I want to learn more about the Bible just in case God wants me to preach sometime in the future." When Pleasant View Baptist Institute holds its first classes on Monday, September 15, a Spanish language class will be held as we endeavor to equip these young men to show themselves approved unto God!

On a Saturday afternoon just two weeks ago during Hispanic visitation, God directed Brother Holden toward a neighborhood where he and Sister Holden had visited several times before. God richly blessed, fulfilling the Biblical principle of one sowing and another watering. As a result of that afternoon's visits, we have had regular contact with four Guatemalans. Their past experience with religion includes Catholic, Adventist, and Pentecostal influences. This past Wednesday one asked, "Hay mas estudios bíblicos este domingo?"  (Are there more Bible studies this Sunday?) When we explained that we would follow the same schedule as this past Sunday (English class at 4:00, Spanish service at 5:00, and our regular English service at 6:00), he asked, "Que tiene en las mañanas?" (What do you have in the mornings?) One of our saved Hispanics explained about Sunday School and the morning service, telling him how much he enjoys both of these. So, praise the Lord, this Sunday, our visitor plans on spending the day with us! Pray for him and his three roommates as we share the gospel of our Saviour, Jesus Christ with them.

During the first week in September, our Hispanic workers had the opportunity to join with some other Hispanic ministries and hold a tent meeting for the Spanish-speaking people here in the Upstate. God richly blessed, and several were saved. Those that were already saved enjoyed the fellowship with other Hispanic believers. The Americans enjoyed seeing the fruit of their labors and experiencing the sweet touch of the presence of God that crosses all cultural and language barriers.

Thank you for your continued prayers and interest in this ministry.

Dios le bendiga!
