Sister Perry is now at home. Since returning home, her condition has improved significantly, but she still needs our prayers. The care she is receiving has helped quite a bit.

The ladies of the church family are scheduling various types of help (sitting, meals, errands, etc.). You may call the church office or Mrs. Brenda Brown if you would like to help "Sis" during this time. If you would like to send her a card, here is her mailing address:

Praise the Lord for the 2007 Missions Revival! Print E-mail

The 2007 Missions Revival was a tremendous blessing to the PVBC family! God met with us every night, and our hearts were stirred once again with the blessing and privilege of being involved in sharing the gospel at home and around the world.

Bro. Allen Barker brought three tremendous messages Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Bro. Bob Ford preached for us on Sunday morning, and his message capped off the week! Each service we also heard testimonies and field presentations from different missionaries; the Sykes family (New Mexico), the Anderson family (United Kingdom), the Sims family (Jewish), and the Beck family (Spain). It was obvious that all four of these families were passionate about God's call on their lives, and they were a blessing to our church family.

On Saturday night, following our international dinner, the children and young people of the church gave a powerful and moving program on the impact of home and foreign missions. Beginning with William Carey, the father of modern missions, they shared with us how he and others laid the ground work for those who would come behind. They closed with testimonies from men on the field TODAY and those whose lives have been changed by the power of the gospel.

On Sunday morning, the church family completed faith-promise cards sharing what their increase would be for the coming year. That night, Pastor Shiflett as well as the entire church family was amazed at the increase. Surely, "Little is Much When God is in it!" The church was able to take on several missionaries during the service, and plans were announced for a radio ministry in the very near future!

The exciting weekend wrapped up with a church fellowship on Sunday night (after a GLORIOUS service!), and Pastor Shiflett shared pictures of his ministry in South Africa. What a blessing to see how God used this family to take the gospel to that country. Once again, the church family thanked God for preparing Pastor Shiflett and his family for Pleasant View Baptist Church. "The Lord hath done GREAT things for us, whereof we are GLAD!!"

Sacrifices of Joy Print E-mail

Psalm 27:6 "And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in His tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD."

What a blessing to be in His tabernacle this past Sunday! God met with us and blessed our hearts together from the opening song during Sunday School assembly, "Because He Lives" and all the way through until the closing prayer on Sunday night! Pastor Shiflett preached on the "Glorious Return" of our Saviour on Sunday morning and continued his excellent series on the home on Sunday night. Both services were blessed with a sweet touch of God's presence, and we enjoyed a special touch of the joy His presence brings on Sunday morning during the song service. The choir and an impromptu congregational, "It Will Be Worth it All" were especially blessed with God's annointing. Our hearts were certainly in tune when it came time for the preaching of the Word!

After the morning service, we enjoyed the blessing of seeing the baptism of eight of our children and young who have been saved this summer. Sunday night, we also enjoyed the update from one of our veteran missionaries, Bro. and Sis. Stanley Ewing serving in Indonesia. Then, at the conclusion of the evening service the church family was blessed during the observance of the Lord's Supper.

Praise the Lord for visitors in both services and for everything God is doing at PVBC.

Quiz Team in Kentucky for the KIQ-OFF! Finals Update! Print E-mail

A Bible quiz team made up of members from both of the PVBC teams participating in the 6-12 division of the Piedmont Quizzing Association have made their way to the KIQ-Off! This is the first annual Kentucky Invitational Quiz held at the Indian Creek Baptist Camp near Louisville, KY. The quiz tournament is sponsored by the Indian Creek Baptist Camp and our friends at Pleasant View Baptist in McQuady, KY.

Adam Raynes, Nathaniel Ogle, Emily Raynes, Starla Townsend, Crystal Townsend, and Jessica Backer will compete in Division II of the KIQ-OFF. Due to some last minute schedule changes, the competition in Division II looks to be quite good, and the young people are excited about the opportunity to test their mastery of Romans 1-8 against teams from across the country.

Thursday night, there was a service and Evangelist Justin Cox preached. Then there was fellowship time for the young people and their sponsors. On Friday there will be another service, activity time, and preparation for the round-robin quizzing on Friday evening. Elimination quizzing will begin on Saturday morning.

Round Robin quizzing took place Friday evening. PVSC competed well, taking a high, and two mids. Both middles were against a red-hot team from our home town of Greenville, SC, and sister PQA team, Faith Baptist. Competition in Division II was excellent, and all the teams are to be commended for their preparation. Elimination rounds will begin Saturday morning at 9:00 A.M.

Saturday Update

The PVBC quiz team had three very strong rounds when the elimination rounds began on Saturday morning. They took one high and two middles, both of which were to the eventual Level II winner, Faith Baptist from SC. In one of those middles, they quizzed very competitively against the Faith team, and placing in the top two or three looked like a very real possibility. In round four of the elimination rounds, however, Adam Raynes who had led the team through the round robin and the elimination quizzing got into error trouble, and the team was unable to pull it off. This first low demoralized the team, and round five was a continuation of round four. The errors mounted, and by the end of the round, PVSC took their second low and were eliminated from the tournament.

The quizzers came away from the tournament with some new motivation. A couple of the younger quizzers realized they had the ability to quiz at a higher level. All of the quizzers enjoyed the fellowship and were challenged by the messages.

The Pleasant View Family has been blessed in recent weeks to see visitors in almost every service, and God is continuing to work in lives. MANY homes and individuals have been confronted with their need of a Saviour! The Hispanic ministry continues to be used of God to reach out with the truth of God's Word to the many thousands who are here in our area. New students are coming to the English classes, where they always receive truth from the Bible as a part of their English lesson. Almost weekly, we get reports from those involved in the prison and detention center ministries of evidence that God is working in hearts and lives of those that are incarcerated. Services are held in three different nursing home and assisted living facilities as well, as we endeavor to reach the elderly, their families, and even the caregivers. In addition, we have seen the Holy Spirit work within the church family.

On Sunday, September 16, 2007, Pastor Shiflett preached with a tremendous burden for those who would sit in a Bible-preaching church Sunday after Sunday and still die and go to spend eternity in the lake of fire. One of the children in the church was saved that morning, and another young man was saved at home that afternoon!

Then on Saturday, September 22, 2007, the youth choir sang at a youth rally in Easley, SC, and Pastor Shiflett preached. Many of our own young people as well as others, were in the altar at the conclusion of the service, and a teen-age girl professed faith in Jesus Christ.

As laborers together, we would ask those who know the Lord to join us in prayer as we try to reach the lost both here and abroad.
